Law Blog

If you've never hired a personal injury lawyer, there are a few basic things you need to know as the plaintiff in a personal injury case. The following are six things you need to know about working with a personal injury lawyer.

A personal injury lawyer is indispensable if you are filing a personal injury lawsuit

One thing to know is the importance of hiring a lawyer with personal injury experience. Your lawyer can file a lawsuit for you and handle all the work involved with winning your case.

Filing a personal injury lawsuit and winning a personal injury case is complex and time consuming. That's why it's so important to work with a lawyer.

Personal injury lawyers can help you maximize any settlement or award you receive in your case

Lawyers can use their expertise to maximize how much money you as the plaintiff receive in your case. Personal injury lawyers know how to evaluate a personal injury case. Your lawyer can discuss settlement offers with you to determine if you should accept them or if your case is worth more money.

Your personal injury lawyer can give you advice that will prepare you for depositions and court appearances

As the plaintiff, you will most likely be required to attend a deposition and appear in court. This can feel overwhelming for plaintiffs with limited experience in the legal system.

A personal injury lawyer can instruct you on what to say in your deposition and in court to support your case and maximize your chances of winning.

Your personal injury lawyer will gather evidence in support of your case

Once you hire a lawyer, your lawyer will get to work gathering evidence like medical records and accident reports. A lawyer also has contacts, such as medical doctors, that can testify in court in support of your case by being expert witnesses.

It's important that you respond to any communication from your personal injury lawyer promptly

Communicating with your lawyer throughout your case is important. You need to be available to answer questions or provide documentation that your lawyer needs.

Most personal injury lawyers are paid through contingency fees

Generally speaking, clients don't have to pay personal injury lawyers anything upfront. These lawyers are is usually paid on a contingency fee basis. This means that personal injury lawyers will get a commission on any settlement or award their clients receive in their cases.

Noni and the Accident

My name is Noni. When I was in college, I was hit by a car while crossing the street. My life was never in danger, but I did break a few bones and had a lot of huge medical bills. I was hoping I wouldn't have to get involved with an attorney, but unfortunately, it came down to that. I used a family friend who is an accident attorney to get some compensation. A few years later, I was hit while riding my bike and had to go through the same process. I suppose I'm lucky to be alive. And it's thanks to accident attorneys that I have been able to put my life back together. I started this blog as a way to let others know just how much lawyers can help you in certain situations.
