Understanding The Need For A Construction Attorney On Your Project

Law Blog

Developers and construction companies have a lot of things to worry about when they start a larger construction project. The public, the laws and ordinances, and other unexpected issues that arise can all cause delays that can be costly to the developer. The best way to deal with these issues is to have an attorney on staff that has experience in this type of law.

What Does a Construction Attorney Do?

A construction attorney can provide a number of services for your company or firm. Construction attorneys often represent their clients from the beginning of your project until the end. They can assist in basic things like billing matters, regulatory issues, submitting claims if needed, and other legal matters. These are not regular lawyers but are specialists that have been working within the field and so understand all the ins and outs of the construction business. They need to know the laws surrounding construction as well. There is no room for error here because a mistake can cost a lot of money or have a negative effect on the final product.

Preventative Representation

Anytime that you are dealing with a regulation or law that might impact your project, your attorney needs to be involved. They should also be your representative with all the authorities and inspectors you might be dealing with: insurance companies, banks, and even the federal agencies like OSHA. If something happens that you suspect might become a problem, let your attorney know right away so that he can try and proactively deal with the problem. They can do more than represent you in court, and in fact, they are your advocate in all things.

Contract Terminations

If you need to terminate a contract that was put in place for your project, the construction attorney can review the contract for you. He will try to find justification for canceling the contract and take the proper steps to dissolve the contract. If arbitration results, he will represent you as you work through that process. His job is to help keep you on track and working within the law. If a new contract needs to be put in place, the construction attorney can help you with that as well.

Day to Day Tasks

Every day, there are minute details that will need to be addressed on your project. From permits to inspections, your lawyer can work with you to ensure all of these details are dealt with properly. For more information, talk to a company like Sauro & Bergstrom, PLLC.

Noni and the Accident

My name is Noni. When I was in college, I was hit by a car while crossing the street. My life was never in danger, but I did break a few bones and had a lot of huge medical bills. I was hoping I wouldn't have to get involved with an attorney, but unfortunately, it came down to that. I used a family friend who is an accident attorney to get some compensation. A few years later, I was hit while riding my bike and had to go through the same process. I suppose I'm lucky to be alive. And it's thanks to accident attorneys that I have been able to put my life back together. I started this blog as a way to let others know just how much lawyers can help you in certain situations.
